TPS, CAVSI Host Forum on Parental Responsibility in Tackling Substance Abuse

Efforts and initiatives from different perspectives have been explored to mitigate the effects of substance and drug abuse. However, the focus on youths and children needs to be zoomed in. Hence, Children Academic and Vocational Support Initiative (CAVSI) and The Press Society TPS (TPS) is set to host a one-day interactive forum. The forum seeks to equip parents, caregivers, religious and community leaders. Especially on information and knowledge on substance using children and the impact it has in their lives. CAVSI, TPS and Abari with support and sponsor from Polaris Bank, MTN Foundation, Fidelity Bank and other. Setting the tone for this forum are the versatile and experience Psychologists, Dr. Bountiful Adelanwa and Dr. Adenike Lawrence.

This forum with is themed: The Role of Parents in Identifying Children’s Substance Use, Abuse and Consequences. It will inform parents on their significant roles in tackling substance use among youths.

The trend in substance abuse among youths is necessitating CAVSI and TPS partnership. This partnership is an effort in informing parent’s society to become more proactive in their parenting. “Parents require this information regarding their children’s behavior to tackle and eliminate substance abuse in our society,” TPS President, Abayomi Elias noted.

The forum will also feature an outreach component, offering basic foodstuffs at discounted prices. Hoping, this will ease the burden of the economic crisis. “This initiative is part of our commitment to support families not just with information but also with practical assistance,” CAVSI Coordinator, Mr. Hakeem Ariori added.

After this event, there are further plans to launch similar programme at other communities to make information regarding the substance abuse and help for families more available.
