Teenage Boy Remanded as Authorities, Family Give Conflicting Accounts | ClipTV Online

Questions have been raised over the circumstances surrounding the arrest, detention, and subsequent arraignment of a 17-year-old boy in connection with an alleged rape involving a 13-year-old girl in Gberigbe, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The case, which is currently before the Ikorodu Magistrate Court and awaiting legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), has also generated concerns from the boy’s family. The family alleges that the boy was physically assaulted. They added that he was then taken into police custody and that the accusation was made without sufficient evidence.

According to information obtained during an inquiry into the matter, the incident occurred on July 20, 2026. The boy was sent to a nearby farm to fetch Saintleave, a type of vegetable leaf.

The boy’s relatives also told our team that, while on his way to the farm, he encountered the 13-year-old girl, whom they said he knew. According to their account, the two subsequently went into the farm to cut the leaves together.

The family alleged that, as they were leaving the farm, the girl’s mother saw the girl and asked her what she had gone there to do.

The girl reportedly told her mother that she had gone there to ease herself. Shortly afterward, the boy allegedly emerged from the same farm carrying the leaves.

According to the boy’s relatives, he was called back, accused of raping the girl, physically assaulted, and subsequently taken to Imota police station.

The family further alleged that the teenager spent four nights in police custody before being charged in court and subsequently remanded.

Medical Examination

As part of our efforts to establish the facts surrounding the allegation, we also spoke with the girl’s father, who confirmed that a medical examination had been conducted on his daughter to ascertain whether she had been defiled.

However, he declined to disclose the outcome of the examination when asked.

The father also told us the hospital was at Ijede, a different location from the actual hospital where, according to him, the examination was conducted.

He confirmed that the matter is currently awaiting legal advice from the DPP and stated that he had previously indicated his intention to withdraw the case.

The boy’s family, however, claimed that a medical examination conducted in connection with the allegation produced a negative result. This was confirmed from a different source.

Upon visiting the Imota General Hospital, our investigation team met with the office that handled the case. They also claimed they are not obliged to release any information or documents.

Police Account

In an attempt to obtain the police’s perspective and ensure balance, our correspondent visited the Imota Police Station, where the case was reportedly handled.

The Investigating Police Officer (IPO), Inspector Iyabode Ogunshola, confirmed that she handled the matter.

She also stated that she visited the alleged crime scene and that the police had photographic evidence as well as a video confessional statement reportedly obtained from the accused teenage boy.

However, when asked to provide relevant documents or evidence to enable the publication to present a balanced account of the investigation, the officer declined, stating that she was not authorized to release such information.

She advised the reporter to direct the request to the Lagos State Police Command.

However, speaking with the Lagos Command Police (PPRO), we were informed that all documents could be obtained from the DPP.

Questions Requiring Clarification

The circumstances surrounding the case have raised questions that require clarification from the relevant authorities. Clarification, including the teenager’s arrest and detention, the evidence relied upon in charging the boy to court. However, given that the matter is before the court and the DPP’s legal advice is reportedly pending, none of the allegations or counter-allegations can be treated as facts.
