During the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) stakeholders’ engagement, the commission stated that the National Spectrum Roadmap 2026–2030 will guide Nigeria’s digital future. Noted that this will be achieved through transparency and consistent spectrum regulation.

Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of the commission, announced this during a stakeholders’ consultation forum on the spectrum roadmap in Abuja.

Maida emphasized that the initiative includes the Spectrum Roadmap 2026–2030 and guidelines for opening the lower 6 GHz and 60 GHz license-exempt bands.

Atiku Lawal, the Spectrum Administration representative, stated that the measures aim to improve the quality of service nationwide.

Maida said, “Our national ambitions are growing. We want faster speeds, broader coverage, better service quality, increased innovation, and greater inclusion.

“This roadmap creates a transparent regulatory environment supporting investment, encouraging innovation, expanding access, and enhancing service quality for all Nigerians.”

He added that the guidelines for the lower 6GHz and 60GHz bands would unlock new capacity for high-speed, affordable, and reliable connectivity.

“Spectrum is behind everything digital we do. Though invisible, it is essential for mobile, broadband, satellite, emergency, and smart technologies,” Maida emphasized.

He further noted that every video call, online class, digital transaction, and connected device in Nigeria depends on spectrum.

“We are preparing Nigeria for future data needs across homes, campuses, businesses, healthcare facilities, and public spaces,” he stated.

Abraham Oshadami, the Executive Commissioner of Technical Services, highlighted that spectrum resources must serve each community.

“Today’s engagement reaffirms our commitment to expanding wireless broadband through foresight, fairness, and adherence to national development goals,” Oshadami said.

Earlier, Atiku Lawal analyzed the roadmap as more than just a technical document. Noted that it is a strategic blueprint for Nigeria’s digital future.

Representing Huawei, Dr. Lola Fafore mentioned that the roadmap would drive innovation, increase broadband penetration, and significantly contribute to the national GDP.

Stakeholders’ engagement will further highlight the initiative that will enhance Nigeria’s digital future.
