Police remand man, 24 for strangling, burying friend in shallow grave | www.cliptvonline.com



Enugu State Police Command has arrested a man for allegedly strangling his friend and burying the victim in a shallow grave.

The police command’s spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe in a press statement e-signed and released to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP stated that the incident took place on April 1 at the Amori community in Nkanu West Local Government Area of the state.

He stated that the 24-year-old suspect, a native of Ebonyi, resident at Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra, had been arraigned and remanded at Enugu Custodial Centre.

“A young man, Agbo Onuabuchi aged 24, a native of Ebonyi State, but resident at Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has been arraigned and remanded in Enugu Custodial Centre, for strangling to death and burying his male friend, one Peter Ukekwe aged 44, in a shallow grave, at Amori community in Nkanu West Local Government Area, on 01/04/2023.”

“The suspect and the deceased, had on the said date, traveled from Ogidi, Anambra State, to the mentioned location to visit one Onyeka Edeh (male and a Native Doctor). However, during the night hours, the duo left the host’s house for an unknown destination. A search was conducted, but they were not found until the following morning, when the suspect was arrested at Obe community in the same LGA, by Police Operatives serving in Nkanu West Division of Enugu State Command, with the assistance of citizens, while he was attempting to escape back to Ogidi, Anambra State.”

According to Ndukwe, “The suspect confessed to the crime, stating that he strangled the victim to death and buried him in a shallow grave in the bush, where his remains were exhumed and deposited in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy. The case was, thereafter, transferred to the Homicide Section of the State CID Enugu, where investigation into the case was consolidated, concluded and the suspect arraigned and remanded accordingly for further hearing.
