How to Retrieve TIN With NIN for Free, FIRS Introduces New Guide | ClipTV Online

The Federal Inland Revenue Service had earlier announced that the National Identification Number (NIN) will serve as tax identification number (TIN). Nigerians can now retrieve their Tax Identification Number (TIN) for free (NIN) through official platforms provided by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Joint Tax Board (JTB).

FIRS as earlier announced that NIN will automatically functions as the Tax ID for Nigerians. This effort underscored Nigeria make the TIN retrieval process faster, simpler, and more accessible.

Online TIN Retrieval Methods (100% Free)

This is the primary and most reliable method.

Steps:

FIRS Portal

  1. Visit the official FIRS Tax ID Retrieval Portal.
  2. Select “Individual”.
  3. Under Tax ID Retrieval Method, choose NIN.
  4. Enter your 11-digit NIN.
  5. Input your first name, last name, and date of birth exactly as registered with NIMC.
  6. Tick the consent box and click Submit.
  7. Your TIN will be displayed instantly.

  1. Via the JTB TIN Verification Portal

This portal allows verification using either NIN or BVN.

JTB Portal:

  1. Visit the Joint Tax Board (JTB) TIN Verification Portal
  2. Click “Search for TIN”.
  3. Select NIN (or BVN if preferred).
  4. Enter your details and date of birth.
  5. If a record exists, your TIN will be shown and can be copied or printed.

Follow the prompts to retrieve or verify your TIN.

JTB Mobile App

Download the JTB App from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

Register or retrieve your TIN directly from the app.

In-Person Retrieval

Visit any FIRS office nationwide.

Present your NIN slip.

Request a free physical printout of your TIN.


Important Notice

TIN is mandatory for operating bank accounts in Nigeria starting January 1, 2026.

Ensure your NIN details match your tax records to avoid retrieval errors.

According to FIRS the service is completely free, Nigerians do not need to pay anyone to retrieve TIN.
