Patriotism does not only occur when one directly or indirectly benefits from the country, rather it is a feeling that drives the conscience to always put Nigeria first and think about what one can offer to make the country better and most importantly, defend her sovereignty in words and in actions, as the case may be.

Criticism without contributing one’s quota to the development of the country is far from the reality. A sincere patriot is expected to be both thinker and doer, whose intent is all about nation building, against all odds.

There’s so much we can learn from history, one of which is the historic moment of January 15, when our armed forces passionately displayed gallantry and bravery in their attempts to obey the clarion call, defend our unity and uphold our honor and glory.

They are our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, uncles and of course patriotic Nigerians like you but they jettisoned tribalism, ethnicity and religious sentiment to obey the clarion call and defend their country from external aggressions.

Today, I salute our veterans who have fought and even paid with their dear lives to ensure the country remains ONE. We may not be satisfied with where we are today but trust me, we all are the architect of our own misfortunes. We all contributed ignorantly or knowledgeably to the poverty, corruption, unemployment, among other underdevelopment indices that have pervaded the land.

No angel will fall from heaven to help us fix the country, we only need to be resolute and put all hands on deck to rewrite the history and be the change we all want to see in our dear nation.

Thank you Nigerian Army for all that you have done!
