Special Presidential Initiative Aims to Facilitate Smooth Travel for Nigerians During the Festive Season

In a move to enhance the holiday travel experience for citizens, President Bola Tinubu has granted approval for a significant reduction in interstate transport fares and free train rides for Nigerians traveling between December 21, 2023, and January 4, 2024. The announcement was made by Dele Alake, Chairman of the inter-ministerial committee on presidential intervention, at the Aso Rock Villa.

Presidential Intervention Details:

The special presidential initiative, aimed at promoting smooth holiday travel, entails a 50% reduction in interstate transport fares and complimentary train rides for citizens during the specified period. President Tinubu’s approval reflects a commitment to easing the financial burden on travelers and ensuring a more affordable and convenient journey for the masses.

Collaborative Efforts:

To ensure the successful implementation of this initiative, the federal government will collaborate with the Ministry of Transportation, transporters, road transport unions, and the Nigerian Railway Corporation. The coordination efforts seek to streamline the process, guaranteeing that the benefits of the reduction and free train rides reach as many Nigerians as possible.

Exclusion of Air Travel:

It is important to note that air travel is not included in this initiative, as the primary focus is on benefiting the masses utilizing ground transportation. The intervention specifically addresses luxurious buses operating on 22 designated routes during the festive season.

Minister of Transportation’s Clarification:

The Minister of Transportation clarified the scope of the intervention, emphasizing its specificity to luxurious buses operating on the identified routes. The government aims to provide relief to citizens traveling by road and train, enhancing accessibility and affordability during a time when many Nigerians embark on journeys to celebrate the festive season with family and friends.
