The 19th edition of West Africa’s largest travel expo, Akwaaba Travel Market, is set to open with the presence of Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.

This highly anticipated event serves as a crucial melting point for exhibitions and tourism in the region. It is expected to attract delegates from over 30 African countries and various stakeholders in Nigeria’s hospitality and travel industry.

One of the event’s highlights will be the revival of the 5th Jollof Rice War, featuring experienced chefs from the hospitality sector who will delight participants with delectable and mouthwatering meals.

Over the course of three days, the event will host esteemed government dignitaries, industry leaders, embassy officials, and participants from countries such as Turkey, the Philippines, and other members of the Diaspora.

The 19th Akwaaba Travel Market, in partnership with the Turkish group Turquaz Serenas, will offer an exceptional networking platform for health and tourism professionals. Notably, top hospitals in Ghana will participate for the first time.

Building on the success of the 1st Medical Tourism Expo at the 18th Akwaaba African Travel Market in 2022, which featured the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Turquaz Health Tourism, Turkish Airlines, and Medical Park, this year’s event will include participation from Turquaz, Serenas, and the Ankara Chamber of Commerce.

The Health Ankara stand at the 19th Akwaaba African Travel Market will provide delegates with a unique opportunity to explore Ankara’s exceptional healthcare offerings. It will showcase innovative strides in medical tourism and offer a hands-on experience of the city’s healthcare advancements.

The event’s program includes the Food Fair, Medical Tourism Expo, African Youth Tourism Bantaba, and Destination Wedding Expo.

Lady Maiden Ibru, Chairman, Publisher, and Chief Executive Officer of Guardian Newspapers, will be the Guest Speaker for the Africa 100 Under 40 awards, scheduled for September 4. Senator Florence Ita Giwa will be the Guest of Honour for the Medical Tourism Expo on September 5, with various medical institutions and professionals in attendance.

Adebayo Adedeji, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Wakanow, Africa’s leading travel company, will serve as the Guest Speaker for the African Youth Tourism Bantaba on Tuesday.

The Akwaaba African Travel Market is an international event organized annually in Lagos, Nigeria. It aims to promote businesses, attract investors, and influence government decision-making in the travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors. The event offers business opportunities, industry news, and showcases products from Africa and around the world.
