The iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban is set to host an epic clash of African football giants as South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs welcome Ghanaian powerhouse Asante Kotoko for the 2025 Toyota Cup on Thursday.

Following a successful 2024 edition in Bloemfontein, where Chiefs locked horns with Tanzanian champions Young Africans in front of a sold-out crowd, this year’s Toyota Cup promises to be another electrifying showcase of talent and heritage.

Asante Kotoko enter the fixture on the back of a strong domestic season, finishing third in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League with 58 points. The Porcupine Warriors recently clinched their 10th FA Cup title after defeating Division One side Golden Kicks 2-1, earning them a spot in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup.

Speaking on the announcement, Jessica Motaung, Marketing and Commercial Director of Kaizer Chiefs, expressed excitement at hosting one of Ghana’s most storied clubs.

“We are honoured to welcome our friends from Ghana to South African soil. Asante Kotoko are part of our shared football heritage,” she said. “The Toyota Cup is more than just a match; it’s a celebration of unity, legacy, and African excellence. Durban, as the manufacturing hub of Toyota South Africa and the site of our recent Nedbank Cup triumph, is the perfect venue for this chapter.”

Tasneem Lorgat, General Manager of Marketing and Communications at Toyota South Africa Motors, emphasized the brand’s commitment to unity and mobility through sport.

On the Ghanaian side, Asante Kotoko Chairman, Edmund Awuah Asafu-Adjaye (Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awuah), lauded the partnership as a meaningful moment for African football.

In addition to the headline match, fans will also be treated to a curtain-raiser clash between Kaizer Chiefs Legends and Zulu Kingdom Legends, featuring iconic names such as Doctor Khumalo, Jabu Mahlangu, Sibusiso Zuma, and Delron Buckley, among others.
