BYU @150: President Oaks Legacy Honored | ClipTV Online

In celebrating the one hundred and fifty years anniversary of providing education through the Brigham Young University (BYU), the institution has decided to honor pertinent contributors.

Established in the year 1875, the institution has had its fair share of challenges. Additionally it has as well witnessed a significant growth amidst those challenges.

As part of the celebration the university on Tuesday has deemed it feet to honor President Dallin Harris Oaks, the current leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

President Oaks was honored for his legacy as the eight President of the institution. He served from 1971 to 1980, during a time where the university start to increase in growth.

The honor was presented during the Pillar of Valley Award in Provo, the State of Utah. Along side President Oaks recognitions is the posthumous award for late Jeffery R. Holland, another fire president of the institution. Many others who have contributed to the development and growth of education and the university were also honored.

The BYU anniversary has been an applauded event. The current president of the university, Shane Reese encouraged passed and current students to support others.

He noted, how education is about sharing “Our theme this year for [BYU’s] 150th birthday has been simple: Share your gifts of light to bless others.”

That idea, sharing gifts of light, is what I see when I think of my colleagues—those past presidents of BYU that we honor tonight. They are individuals who lifted others, strengthened our university and shaped this community in enduring ways. I’ve been blessed to know each of them and to learn from each of them,” he concluded.

The event has reminisce the core value of the institution and witnessed the appearance of leaders across the nation. Reminding attendants of the role of education in shaping the world.
