The Chairman, Senate Committee on Industries and the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA has felicitated with Christians and other Nigerians on the 2022 celebrations of Christmas.
Senator Abiru, in his goodwill message urged Christians to reflect and emulate the virtues and ideals of Jesus Christ which emphasized love, tolerance and peaceful co-existence among other people who share different religious beliefs.
The lawmaker urged all Nigrians to fully participate in the forthcoming 2023 General Elections and vote for all the candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, stressing that the Bola Tinubu/Shettima presidency will deliver desired good governance to the nation.
He said, ‘I rejoice with the people of Lagos East in particular, Lagos state and Nigeria in general as we commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. It is significant to observe and remember the ideals and values that Jesus Christ died for as the Saviour of the world.
‘In His deeds and teachings, Jesus Christ preached love and nation building. He emphasised fairness and justice among the leaders that hold power in trust for the people. He also stands for a society free of corruption, moral perversion and violence of all kinds.
‘As we commemorate this season, we must consciously reflect on the ideals and values He taught, defended and died for, considering the challenges our dear nation is grappling with in recent times.
“Dear compatriots, as we journey into 2023, we should all be involved in the electoral process by coming out to vote in the general elections. Our dear nation is at a critical crossroad. The complexity of our dear nation and the overwhelming challenges in the security, economic and other sectors require an experienced, tested leader to take up the mantle of leadership.
“Fellow country men and women, I boldly present Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Presidential candidate of the ruling APC as the man that will take Nigeria to the desired next level. Support and vote for him, alongside all candidates of the APC.”
‘It is my utmost joy to celebrate this joyous occasion with you. While sharing love and care to the needy during this season, we must, as well, be conscious of our safety and security. I wish you all a happy celebration’.

Re: “Peaceful Co-existence” …
Too many of us insist upon creating the Creator’s nature in our own fallible and too-often angry, vengeful image; for example, proclaiming via publicized protests that ‘God hates’ such-and-such group of people, etcetera.
Many monotheists insist that God is on their ‘side’, while condemning this or that identifiable populace [e.g. Palestine and Israel]. While I don’t hold much faith in scriptural teachings, I do give credence to the Biblical claim (Jeremiah 17:9) that base corporeal human nature is “desperately wicked”.
Personally, I, a believer in Christ’s miracles, like to picture Jesus enjoying a very healthy belly-shaking laugh over a good [albeit clean] joke with his disciples, now and then. Imagine the divine with a good, open sense of humor!
In the case of right-wing ‘Christians’, they likely find inconvenient, if not plainly annoying, trying to reconcile the conspicuous inconsistency in the fundamental nature of the New Testament’s Jesus with the wrathful, vengeful and even jealous nature of the Old Testament’s Creator.
Often being the most vocal, they make very bad examples of Christ’s fundamental message, especially to the young and impressionable. It’s largely why I place a higher standard on those in public life who claim to be Christian yet behave nothing like Christ nor his basic teachings.
I’m talking about Jesus through his teachings and practices, not pragmatism, politics or conservative/liberal goals. Can anyone seriously imagine Jesus rolling his eyes at the likes of Trump and his grotesque ideology/extremism, and then sigh, ‘Oh well, I’m against everything the man stands for, but what can you do when you dislike even more some of what his political competition stands for’?
Ironically, Christ’s teachings/practices largely reflect(ed) the primary component of socialism — do not hoard morbidly superfluous wealth in the midst of poverty. He clearly would not tolerate the accumulation of tens of billions of dollars by individual people — especially while so many others go hungry and homeless.
