The recent #endbadgovernance in Nigeria due to challenges faced by many Nigerians is an eye opener that Nigerians want better lives. The current administration has faced criticism as citizens felt the economy could be better. Nonetheless, the 2024 Future Summit themed: Fresh Start (Charting New Horizon) could be the solution to these challenges.

Keynote Speech

The Summit welcome specialists from different works of life, enlightened entrepreneurs to be bold on charting new Horizon. These leaders and professionals bring personal experience and professionalism to charge Future Summit audience on the importance of a Fresh Start.

In her keynote speech Mrs. Tonya Lawani, CEO of a fast growing conglomerate of companies intimate young entrepreneurs on charting a new horizon. The SEAL Group of company CEO noted that “’Fresh Start’ is what we experience in our everyday life”. Stating that this could be in a relationship, education, business, governance, love etc.

She indicated that one way to chart a new horizon is to write down the ideas that comes to mind. However, Tonya mentioned that “Fresh Start comes with its own challenges.” These could be “thinking the idea is not big enough, or bothered on how to make the idea come to life.”

Procrastination is Dangerous

Nevertheless, she counseled, “don’t procrastinate. Procrastination is the biggest failure of entrepreneurs.” She charged the young entrepreneurs to overcome their fear by starting afresh now.

Tonya Further said that procrastination is borne out of fear and could be overcome by jumping right into the new idea right away. Speaking with ClipTV Online, she noted “it is an honour sharing ideas with young people, encouraging them to chase their goals. Also to help them chart a new horizon”

Finally, she appreciates the convener, (KISH) and hoping she made an impact on the young entrepreneurs mind.

A Fresh Start

With her wealth of experience one of the speakers, Mrs. Tosin Adebayo Yusuf, the Executive Director (ED), Heirs Insurance Group encouraged the new entrepreneurs to embrace change. From personal experience, Tosin shared how she navigate from chemical engineering to the insurance sector. She noted that this was not an easy step but it worth the change.

The ED therefore analyzed some of the reasons for charting a new horizon. Some of these situations include global and economic reasons, taxes, and change in preference just to mention a few.

 A recent Global and Economic change that warrant fresh start is the case of the Covid 19. Identifying Covid 19 as a global change that brought positive Fresh Start to individuals and organization. “Since the inception of the Covid, the E-commerce platform has taken a more effective shape,” she noted.

If carefully observed there has also been more remote jobs and other online trainings that do not require physical engagements. “However, there are challenges too,” she said.

Solutions

According to Mrs. Yusuf some of the identified solutions that affect fresh start or charting new horizon includes Adjacent Innovation, Cross Industries for Sustainable Growth, Collaboration to harness strategic growth.

In conclusion, Tosin encouraged the audience “never to underestimate the power of good advice regardless of where it is coming from.”

Teslim Olusi, Founder Omoluabi Foundation sensitize the audience on the importance of being prepared for the future. He stated that the future is what each individual prepare self for, “each person’s future is determined by the individual,” he said. Teslim further mentioned that individual future differs and had to be pursued differently. Either way, he encouraged doggedness to achieve success in a fresh start.

Charting New Horizon

Olusi clarified that he has be in an out of different sectors, ‘Charting New Horizon’. He highlighted some of the jobs he has taken up and dropped to have a fresh start. Noting that from photography to studying mass communication, soap making, to marine and later politics.

Olusi claimed that determination is a key role in charting a new horizon or having a fresh start. Acknowledging that resources might be scarce in achieving set goals, “perseverance and keeping sight of the goals is important,” he said.

Dr. Adeniyi Ojikutu, CEO, Pacific Network Solution shared secrets in undertaking a ‘Fresh Start’ as an entrepreneur. He revealed that for entrepreneurs to be successful, there as to be adaptability to adopt economic changes and inflations.

Furthermore, stating that adaptability has to embrace innovation. He said “entrepreneurs should be aware of business trends and create innovative ideas to match the trends.” Citing fashion as an example, Ojikutu illustrate how people has adopt wearing locally made designs instead of foreign designs.

Finally, Ojikutu stated the importance of entrepreneurs having empathy in their leadership styles. “It creates bonds and the yearning for teammates to be inclusive,” he concluded.

Fresh with the Government

Many Nigerians find reasons to disapprove the current administration, Mrs. Damilola Sonayon James, MD, DGS Consulting, said in an interview with ClipTV Online. She however counseled that charting a new horizon could be to understudy and make recommendations to the government.

Clarifying that “there has to be synergy between the government and the people,” Damilola charged the audience to embrace a fresh start by supporting the government. “Entrepreneurs should collaborate with the government, find how to help and make recommendation as needed,” she encouraged.

Founder, Agatha Legal Law firm, Agatha McMadu, highlighted that Charting New Horizon means having a mindset shift. To be willing and ready to make changes when the time arrives. She further noted that individuals should be flexible to start afresh rather than being rigid or scared to start.

“Believing that change is inevitable,” she underscored. “Knowing that change is constant, we should be prepared to adapt to change by charting new horizon when it demands,” she said.

Conclusion

In his vote of thanks, Odulowo Olushola Kish, the convener, applaud the speakers for making time of their busy schedule to inspire the young entrepreneurs with the equipment and skills needed to chart a new course whenever the need arises.

Kish stated “As each fresh start comes the opportunity to break free from the past” participants should apply the principles learned today to chart new horizon on their entrepreneurship journey.
