Hon. Khadijat Omotayo Kareem dedicates award to President Tinubu

Hon. Khadijat Omotayo Kareem, Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Constituency Affairs, has dedicated her recent award to the President in recognition of his administration’s commitment to societal progress. The award was presented on Tuesday during a symposium on femicide prevention, a vital societal concern.

In her acceptance speech, Hon. Khadijat Kareem commended Ambassador Oriyomi Pelumi for the outstanding effort in organizing the event. She further said, that femicide is truly one of the societal concerns. Applauding the convener, she noted this symposium has brought attention to the critical issue of femicide.

She emphasized that preventing femicide requires collective responsibility, stating, “Tackling femicide prevention is not just the government’s responsibility but a community effort. Everyone has a role to play in creating a safer society for women.” Khadijat noted that the nation needs to come together, to condemn violence against women and girls. That everyone needs to be held responsible to cultivate the custom of respect and equity to women and girls.

Highlighting government initiatives, Hon. Khadijat pointed to ongoing efforts to curb femicide through strategic interventions such as providing quality education, job training, and promoting economic empowerment for women.

She stressed the importance of addressing the root causes of violence against women, explaining, “To effectively prevent femicide, we must confront the systemic inequalities and societal norms that perpetuate violence. We must challenge the status quo in a society where men hold the majority of power and authority.”

Hon. Khadijat also called for avoiding stereotypes and ensuring adequate support for victims of femicide. She urged the community to foster healthy relationships between women, girls, and their male counterparts to promote mutual respect and understanding.

Her speech resonated with attendees, reinforcing the idea that the fight against femicide requires unity, policy reforms, and a cultural shift towards equality and respect. Hon. Khadijat’s dedication of her award to President Tinubu underscores her commitment to supporting the administration’s vision of a safer and more inclusive Nigeria.
