No Limitations: Folashade Oba Charged Women on Femicide Prevention | ClipTV Online

Femicide has been a critical issue affecting communities locally and internationally. In 2023, 21,700 cases of femicide was in Africa (Un women). This societal concerns has brought concern citizens together, discussing the way forward.

Education on Femicide

Addressing the important issue, the Ikorodu Local Government Executive Vice Chairman Aarebirin Hon. Princess (Dr.) Folashade Olabanji-Oba challenged both women and girls to strive not to be bound. Thereby charged them to get ready to fight for their worth and the total campaign against femicide and portrayal of women and girls as less important.

With emphasis on the importance of enabling the girl child, Aarebirin movingly passed the message on education for children. She noted that boy as well as girl child needs to be educated on equality. She further highlights the importance of standing up against female rejection or stereotype.

Overcoming the Barriers

In fact, it is imperative that each girl child recognize her value. The National Chairman, Association of Local Government Vice-Chairmen of Nigeria (ALGOVC) also said, “Education has a critical role to carve in ensuring people are not left out from participating in activities that are demeaning to women since they come with barriers.”

Furthermore, Aarebirin used her own life experience to empower women and girls to have the guts to take charge of their lives. She noted that their orientation is germain in preventing femicide.

She also explained how she became a successful entrepreneur, the importance of inspiration and determination.

That inspiration was given to me by somebody. It is our duty wherever we are to straighten our backs and take our places as women. She said this stating that effectively there ought not to be any reason that women are unable to challenge and climb up to the top demise all the social barriers.

Aarebirin added to the understanding of femicide pointing out that it is not only a physical problem. For her, the problem started from the point, from which woman view herself and her worth.

She said that femicide begins from how women regard themselves. When a girl child is fully aware of her value, she will not bend so easily. Girls should be made strong with confidence and self esteem so that they overcome societal bounds, this was Aarebirin’s opinion.

Her message encouraged women to help other women and be more than just what societies want them to be. They should  contribute positively to the society to ensure that women are respected and protected until femicide is the furthest thing from the world.
