Imota CDC Hosts Historic Maiden Community Day, Celebrates Democracy and Grassroots Development | ClipTV Online

In celebration of June 12 Democracy Day, the ancient town of Imota in Lagos State witnessed a remarkable milestone as the Imota Community Development Committee (CDC) held its first-ever Community Day. Themed “Consolidating CDAs’ Contribution to. Community Development,” the event was held at the newly facilitated Imota Mini Stadium, drawing widespread participation from all Community Development Associations (CDAs) within the Imota Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

Imota, one of the oldest towns in Lagos State, has recently experienced rapid development in infrastructure, population, and socio-economic life. Notably, the town attained LCDA status in 2003 during the administration of then-Governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, now President of Nigeria.

Owing to the continuous support of distinguished leaders such as the #DoingGood Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru and Hon. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, Imota now boasts of improved roads, structured schools, and public facilities, including the mini stadium where the historic event took place. These infrastructures are now sustained and maintained by the CDC members consisting of about 200 CDAs.

In his address, the Executive Chairman, Imota LCDA, Hon. Wasiu Agoro, ably represented by his Vice Chairman Hon. Sunday Benson, lauded the initiative and commended notable political figures such as Hon. Babajimi Benson, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, and Hon. Aro Moshood (AMA) for their unwavering contributions to the development of Imota LCDA.

He then applauds the CDC Chairman, Comrade Odumosu Ashaka and his entire team of executive members for bringing all the community members together for the maiden celebration.

“Though this is the first of its kind in Lagos East Senatorial District, as affirmed by Alhaji Shonibare, we are committed to making Community Day an annual celebration here in Imota,” he said.

He further charged the community members to come out en masse on July 12 for the Local Government election. Stating that voting will enable people to make their choice of candidate known, it encourages development, and indicate participation in governance.

Speaking with a participant who represented Lolo CDA, Mr. Kayode emphasized the importance of a day like this. “It brings all together, in unity and happiness. We sing and dance in our culture, some of the songs we hear today are not regular songs,” he said. He further stated that despite the harsh economic conditions, coming together with others like this can enhance community members unity and avoiding depression.

The CDC Chairman, Comrade Odumosu Rafiu Abiodun Ashaka, emphasized that the event was designed to complement the developmental strides of Hon. Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Noting that the event has been an annual event organized by the ministry of Rural Development and Chieftaincy Affairs but the State level. “The idea to hold Imota LCDA Community Day was conceived in the last Community Day at Police College. After discussing it with the executive, we agreed that ‘if it can be conceived, it can be achieved,” he said. “We have since then start the preparation, and today al glory to the Almighty Allah, it has a been a success,”

“Today’s success is the result of the collective effort of our executive team and the visionary foundation laid by my predecessors, Late Otunba Ifadoyin Adesanya and Late Salisu Obarinu Yekini. Their legacy of selfless service continues to inspire our actions,” he noted.

Odumosu called on all CDA members and residents of Imota LCDA to unite in driving development, urging everyone to actively participate in the upcoming July 12 Local Government election.

“Development thrives under good governance. We must not allow voter apathy in Imota. Let us all exercise our civic duty and vote for candidates who will further our community’s progress,” he said.

He also extended appreciation to the security agencies for maintaining law and order, with special mention of the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps (LNSC) and its Imota Commandant, CS Adejo Adekunle, for their dedication to community safety.

“Imota’s crime rate has significantly decreased, and this would not have been possible without the consistent efforts and presence of the LNSC and the Nigerian Police Force,” he concluded.

The Imota Community Day celebration marks a new chapter in grassroots engagement and civic participation, setting the pace for other LCDAs in Lagos East and across the state.
