CWRF, GWA celebrate International Women Day at the Adeboruwa Palace

In a remarkable display of unity and progressiveness, the Community Women’s Right Foundation (CWRF) joined forces with the Good Women Association (GWA) to commemorate the 2024 International Women’s Day. The event, held at the Adeboruwa Palace in Igbogbo, witnessed the presence of numerous community stakeholders, as reported by Cliptv.

Adeboruwa’s Declaration

HRM Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, made a significant declaration during his speech, stating that all traditional rulers in Lagos State are He for She Ambassadors. He encouraged CWRF and GWA to extend their enlightenment efforts beyond the palace and International Women’s Day events, emphasizing the importance of reaching market women to accelerate women’s progress. The Adeboruwa pledged unwavering support to the Igbogbo women and the organizing bodies.

Appeal for Inclusion

Prince Alhaji Lateef Kayode Akinborode, the executive director of CWRF, issued a heartfelt appeal to men to actively support the inclusion of women in leadership platforms, recognizing the importance of gender diversity in driving progress.

CWRF’s Mediation Efforts

Sekinat Oyindamola, the CWRF project director, expressed gratitude to the Adeboruwa for his continuous support and thanked volunteers for their invaluable assistance. Mrs. Oyindamola highlighted CWRF’s role in mediation, particularly using the “wheel of life” method to address challenges faced by participants in various aspects of their lives. She emphasized that CWRF’s mediation efforts extend to both men and women, aiming to empower individuals across all spheres.

Strategic Importance of the Event

In an interview, Mrs. Oyindamola underscored the strategic significance of hosting the International Women’s Day event, noting that it provided women with access to traditional rulers and served as an opportunity for daily impact on women’s lives, ensuring continuous empowerment.

Advocacy for Women’s Rights

Biola Ibiefo, the leader of Good Women Association (GWA), urged women to speak up against gender-based violence. Emphasizing the association’s focus on women’s health and drug prevention. Mrs. Biola encouraged the participants to take care of their health as much they advocate for their rights.

Women’s Value and Advocacy

Zainab Zakare, the project manager for GWA, highlighted the high value, substance, and importance of women in society. She stressed the need for women to advocate for themselves without sentiment. Zainab further emphasized the importance of education in empowering women to vie for public positions.

IWD: Importance of Women in Governance

Princess Basirat Banjoko, Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA Ward C1 Councilor, Deputy leader of the house, elaborated on women significance in governance. She emphasized the role of balanced leadership in accelerating progress. “Moreover, they will provide the complimentary skills needed for nation building”, she said. Celebrating this year International Women’s Day is therefore another opportunity to advocate for women, she concluded.

The partnership between CWRF and GWA, along the support from community leaders underscores new strength. It is a collective commitment to advancing women’s rights and empowerment in society.

Also in attendance are the Chiefs from Igbogbo Baiyeku, Baale, Iyalode and other chiefs.
