New NCC Board Reaffirms Role as Catalyst for Nigeria’s Digital Economy | ClipTV Online

NCC Institutes New Board in Uyo

As the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) strengthens the telecommunications across the nation, the commission has constitute a new board. The NCC newly constituted Board has then held its induction retreat in Uyo. This induction ensures that governance priorities and the commission’s strategic mandates are aligned.

The retreat was chaired by NCC board member, Chief Idris Ibikunle Olorunnimbe. It provided a platform for the Board to engage with Management on the Commission’s focus. Furthermore, with this retreat, Nigeria digital economy is reaffirmed by NCC critical role in development.

Additionally, it is designed to strengthen institutional regulatory and governance effectiveness. Also, the retreat featured in-depth and forward-looking deliberations. The discussion focused on legal, governance, and regulatory frameworks guiding the telecommunications industry.

At the retreat are experts with wealth of experience to facilitate the sessions. Among whom we have Mrs. Yetunde Akinloye who led a comprehensive review of the Nigerian Communications Act (2003). She offer insights into its relevance and provision to contemporary regulatory challenges.

NCC Institutes New Board in Uyo

On the other hand, Mr. Paul Usoro, SAN, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators underscored reflections on effective board governance. He further shared the oversight within the context of national telecommunications regulator.

Bringing a global perspective to the table, Prof. Hyacinth Nwana examined the evolving role of regulators. He highlights the future of regulation in an increasingly digital and interconnected world. Prof. Fabian Ajogwu, OFR, SAN, provided grounding on core principles of corporate governance, emphasising accountability, transparency, and strategic leadership.

The sessions were rigorous and candid, with discussions anchored on strong governance frameworks, regulatory credibility, and a sharper focus on delivering measurable outcomes for consumers, industry stakeholders, and the broader digital economy.

The induction retreat further underscores the Board’s commitment to effective oversight, sound governance, and strategic leadership in advancing the NCC’s mandate of promoting innovation, competition, and inclusive digital growth across Nigeria.
