In a recent statement released in Abuja, political activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has called for the investigation of the Managing Director of Access Bank and his counterpart at Guaranteed Trust Bank (GTB) in connection with the arrest and ongoing probe of the former Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele.
Timi Frank alleges that both bank executives were main accomplices in aiding subversion and misappropriation of public funds meant for the welfare of the Nigerian people. He further appeals to the United Kingdom (UK) government to cooperate with Nigerian security agencies in inviting the two bank MDs for questioning.

According to Frank, the Department of State Service (DSS) had already extended invitations to the bank executives to report for questioning on July 3, but there are concerns that they may evade these summons and seek refuge in the UK.
“We are also aware that four other Managing Directors of tier one banks in the country have been fingered as direct accomplices and conduit for Mr. Emefiele with the Access and GTBank MD’s playing the greater roles in aiding to defraud and fleece the nation fraudulently,” Frank stated in the release.

He further called on the UK government not to allow corrupt individuals, whether private or public servants, to use the country as a haven for their illegal activities.
In addition to the call for investigation, Frank highlights the acquisition of two private jets by the GTBank Managing Director with a value of over $80 million, which he claims is not officially captured in their books. He insists on a thorough investigation to ascertain the genuineness of this acquisition.

Frank concludes his statement by urging the Department of State Service (DSS) to take the matter seriously and ensure that those involved in fraudulent activities are brought to justice. He hints at having more information available to assist the DSS in their investigation if required.
The allegations and the ongoing probe have raised concerns in the Nigerian society, and stakeholders are keen to see a thorough investigation to eradicate corruption in the nation. The response from the UK government and the actions of the bank executives in the coming days will likely play a significant role in how the situation unfolds.
