Rotarian Oluwa Enitan Sophie has been inaugurated as the new President of the Rotary Club of New Lagos Ikeja, part of Rotary District 9112, Nigeria, in recognition of her numerous contributions to humanity. The handover ceremony took place on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Happies Recreation Hall in Ladoke Akintola, GRA Ikeja, Lagos. The event marked the transition of leadership from Rotarian Omolara Akinbami Ojo PHF, the outgoing President for the 2023/24 Rotary Year, who handed over the mantle to Sophie via Zoom from the United States.

The ceremony, attended by distinguished guests and representatives from various Rotary Clubs across Lagos State, was a celebration of service and commitment to the community. The event underscored the ongoing dedication of the Rotary Club to humanitarian efforts and community development.

In her acceptance speech, Rotarian Oluwa Enitan Sophie, founder of the Natineee Empowerment for Sustainable Impact Initiative (NESII), expressed her gratitude to God and thanked the club members for their unwavering support. She shared her vision for the club, emphasizing her commitment to supporting vulnerable groups such as destitutes and ex-convicts through her NGO, MESII. Sophie outlined her plans to leverage the Rotary network, which includes 100 clubs across Lagos State, to effectively address the needs of these communities.

Sophie emphasized the importance of empowering individuals through skill acquisition and self-employment initiatives. She expressed her belief in creating a team dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable persons in Lagos, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to become self-sufficient.

Barrister Kehinde Adebola Nubi, a legal practitioner and graduate of Animal Science, congratulated the new president and expressed confidence in her leadership abilities. Nubi, who has known Sophie since her secondary school days, highlighted her dedication to community service and her innovative approach to addressing societal issues, including climate change. He commended her efforts to promote tree planting and environmental conservation, vital steps in mitigating the adverse effects of deforestation and illegal bush burning.

Nubi recalled his time as the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) Chairman during Sophie’s school years, emphasizing the long-standing relationship and his pride in her achievements. He wished her all the blessings of the Heavenly Hosts, hoping she will continue to impact humanity positively.

The ceremony concluded with a sense of optimism and commitment to continued service. Under the leadership of Rotarian Oluwa Enitan Sophie, the Rotary Club of New Lagos Ikeja is poised to make significant strides in community development and humanitarian outreach in the 2024/2025 Rotary Year.
