In a concerted effort to curb the rising social issues within the Igbodu community, including stealing, burgling, open defecation, burning of cables under the power line, and the selling of hard drugs, Chief Adeniyi Ajayi, the Eletu of Oke-Eletu, has taken decisive action. Chief Ajayi announced that he had been invited to the Ministry of Environment on June 25, 2024, to discuss these pressing concerns.
Chief Ajayi highlighted that the Ministry of Environment had received four petitions from different Community Development Associations (CDAs) within Igbodu, notably Igbodu CDA, Landmark CDA, Oko-Igbo CDA, and Royal Peace CDA. These petitions focused on the social menace primarily attributed to the Hausa community at Sabo Kasoa.
Recognizing the severity of the issues, Chief Ajayi has been instructed to organize a stakeholders’ meeting involving the concerned CDAs, the Hausa community, and three prominent families: the Oke-Eletu family, Mabunmi family (Dehinde), and Shokeyo family. This meeting aims to develop a resolution to address and mitigate the social problems.
During the consultative meeting, the following resolutions were agreed upon:
- Illegal Occupants: It was emphasized that all individuals residing under the power line are illegal occupants.
- Illegal Landlords: Those who have allocated lands under the power line are deemed illegal landlords.
- Community Integrity: No individual, including Alatishe, should use the situation at Sabo Kasoa to disrupt the legal residents of Igbodu, Landmark, Oko-Igbo, and Royal Peace CDAs.
- Illegal Activities: The operation of illegal businesses within Sabo Kasoa is prohibited.
- Prohibition of Stolen Goods and Drugs: No stolen items or hard drugs should be bought or sold within the market.
- Sanitation: Open defecation within the CDAs around Kasoa is forbidden, and regular sanitation must be conducted to maintain market cleanliness.
- Burning of Cables: Burning of cables under the power line is strictly prohibited.
- Scavengers: Scavengers are not allowed within the community.
- Evacuation Clause: Failure to adhere to these resolutions will result in the evacuation of all individuals residing under the power line.
These resolutions were signed by the leaders of Sabo Kasoa, Alhaji Ibrahim Yusuf, Chairman, and Alhaji Sanni, Vice-Chairman. The document will also be signed by the leadership of the Ikorodu Local Government, Ijede Local Council Development Area, the leadership of the CDAs, Eletu of Oke-Eletu, and the heads of the involved families.
Chief Adeniyi Ajayi expressed hope that these measures would restore peace and order within the Igbodu community, ensuring a safer and more harmonious environment for all residents.
