The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Continues Support for WFP, Combating Global Hunger | Cliptv Online

In a world grappling with unprecedented food insecurity, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints reaffirms its unwavering commitment to combat global hunger by continuing its partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP). The remarkable collaboration has led to the alleviation of acute food insecurity in nine countries, providing a lifeline for 345 million people, 50 million of whom stand on the precipice of famine.

The generosity of the Church has empowered WFP to provide essential food and critical aid to the world’s most vulnerable populations, including mothers and young children. This assistance reaches across the globe, touching lives in Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Haiti, Kenya, Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan, and Yemen.

The partnership between The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and WFP originated in 2014 and has since evolved into a powerful force for good. A pivotal moment in this collaborative effort occurred when former WFP Executive Director David Beasley visited the Church’s welfare operations in Salt Lake City in 2019. The two organizations united their strengths to bridge hunger gaps exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“At this time of unprecedented global need, we are grateful for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ transformational gift,” expressed WFP USA President and CEO Barron Segar following last year’s donation. “Private sector support is critical to our mission, enabling WFP to scale food assistance and resilience work that brings families stability and comfort during these challenging times. I am confident that the Church’s gift will inspire others to join our movement to end global hunger.”

The World Food Programme, part of the United Nations, is the largest humanitarian organization globally, dedicated to saving lives during emergencies and utilizing food assistance as a conduit to foster peace, stability, and prosperity for those affected by conflict, disasters, and climate change.

World Food Program USA, a 501(c)(3) organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., takes pride in supporting the United Nations World Food Programme’s mission. It rallies American policymakers, businesses, and individuals to contribute to the worldwide initiative to eradicate hunger.

The humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as evidenced in its 2022 annual report, invested over $1 billion in addressing the needs of vulnerable communities. This commitment extends to more than 6.3 million hours of volunteer service and the completion of 3,692 humanitarian projects in 190 countries and territories.

The Church’s humanitarian efforts, deeply rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ, aim to alleviate suffering, nurture self-reliance, and foster opportunities for service. The Church stands by its commitment to feed the hungry and support those in need, irrespective of race, religious affiliation, or nationality. Its humanitarian aid is guided by core principles, promoting personal responsibility, community support, self-reliance, and sustainability.

The enduring impact of this humanitarian outreach is made possible by the generous donations and voluntary contributions of Latter-day Saints and friends of the faith, leaving an indelible mark in the collective effort to fight global hunger.
