Nigerians worldwide are rallying behind chess prodigy Tunde Onakoya as he embarks on a monumental quest to surpass the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon.
Onakoya, renowned for his exceptional chess prowess, announced the commencement of the marathon on his X account, signaling the beginning of an epic challenge.
“We haven’t even started yet and Nigerians are already trooping into camp out with me,” Onakoya shared on his social media platform.
Among the enthusiastic supporters is Nigerian music sensation Adekunle Gold, demonstrating the nation’s solidarity with Onakoya’s ambitious endeavor.
The historic event unfolds in the heart of New York City’s vibrant Times Square, with Onakoya kicking off the marathon at 10 am on Wednesday, April 17. The marathon is slated to culminate at 8 pm on April 19, totaling a grueling 58 hours of non-stop chess gameplay.
Onakoya’s objective is clear: to engage in an intense chess battle, aiming to sustain his gameplay for an unprecedented 58 hours without succumbing to defeat.
The current Guinness World Record, established by Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad of Norway on November 11, 2018, stands at an impressive 56 hours, 9 minutes, and 37 seconds.
As Onakoya embarks on this extraordinary feat, Nigerians worldwide join in cheering him on, united in their hopes for his success.
