In a heartwarming Pens Down Ceremony held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Secretariat Alausa, Ikeja, on Friday, 20th December 2023, Lagos State bid farewell to fourteen distinguished Permanent Secretaries who retired from the State Public Service in the same year. Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, delivered a moving address, expressing gratitude and commendation for the retirees’ remarkable service.

Warm Welcome:

Mr. Bode Agoro, the 22nd Head of Lagos State Public Service, warmly welcomed the retirees, their family members, friends, associates, and well-wishers to the special occasion. He acknowledged the significance of the Pens Down Ceremony, not only as a moment for celebration but also as a time for thanksgiving to Almighty God for the grace of life and the opportunity to honor meritorious public service careers.

Recognition of Merit:

Agoro highlighted the commendable service and outstanding contributions of the fourteen retirees to the growth and development of the State Public Service. He expressed profound appreciation for their doggedness, commitment, dedication, loyalty, and untold sacrifices throughout their public service careers. The retirees were recognized as ambassadors of the State Public Service, and Agoro extended a big thank you on behalf of the vibrant Body of Lagos State Permanent Secretaries.

Best Wishes for the Future:

While wishing the retirees continued good health and long life, Mr. Bode Agoro acknowledged those who retired voluntarily due to appointments in higher capacities. He congratulated them on their appointments and urged them to redouble their efforts and commitments in their new roles, making the State Public Service proud as ambassadors.

Post-Retirement Endeavors:

Agoro encouraged the retirees to pay attention to their personal health and wellness, emphasizing the availability of the Post Service Department in the Public Service Office for retired individuals. He expressed confidence that the retirees, with their skills and extensive administrative experience, would continue to add value to themselves, their communities, and Lagos State.

Association Membership:

The retirees were invited to associate themselves with the Association of Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries in Lagos State (ALARHOSPS), contributing their vast reservoirs of information to formulate and implement public policies for the benefit of the state.

Gratitude and Recognition:

Mr. Bode Agoro expressed gratitude to Mr. Governor for approving the program, despite the challenges faced by the State Government. He commended the governor’s commitment to prioritizing staff welfare matters, a gesture reciprocated by the dedication of both serving and retired personnel to the service of the state.

In conclusion, Agoro thanked all present, including Permanent Secretaries, Royal Fathers, Invited Guests, family members, friends, and colleagues, wishing everyone a memorable celebration and a happy and prosperous New Year in advance.
