In a dedicated effort to combat crime during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) FCT Command has deployed 4,000 personnel, ensuring robust security for a peaceful and hitch-free festive season.
Operational Preparedness:
Commandant Olusola Odumosu, speaking at the Command headquarters in Wuse zone 5, Abuja, revealed that a comprehensive operational order covering the entire Federal Capital Territory (FCT) had been released and was being diligently implemented. The Command has mobilized its Special Forces and various tactical units, including the Armed Squad, Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Rapid Response team, Special Female Squad, Agro Rangers unit, Anti-vandals unit, Crisis and disaster management unit, and the Intelligence Unit, for this crucial assignment.
Proactive Measures:
The proactive deployment of personnel aims to address potential challenges arising from the influx of visitors to the FCT, anticipating increased social, economic, and criminal activities during this period. The mission is to provide robust security for visitors, residents, and the protection of Critical National Assets and public utilities in the FCT.
Commandant Odumosu emphasized that with residents traveling and leaving behind vulnerable properties, the Command is taking extra measures to secure homes and belongings. Strategic locations and soft targets such as places of worship, recreational centers, markets, shopping malls, parks, gardens, and suspected flashpoints are under the watchful eye of deployed assets.
High Visibility Patrols:
Area Commanders and Divisional Officers across the 6 Area Councils have been directed to maintain 24-hour high visibility day and night patrols, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the Territory. The Command expressed confidence in the synergy and collaboration among various security agencies to guarantee peace and order during the yuletide period in the FCT.
Community Engagement:
Commandant Odumosu called on FCT residents to be law-abiding, obey rules and regulations, stay vigilant, and cooperate with law enforcement and safety agencies for the interest of peace and progress. He encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities, emphasizing that security is everyone’s responsibility.
As the festive season approaches, the NSCDC FCT Command is dedicated to promptly responding to distress and emergency situations, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents. Commandant Odumosu extended felicitations to the Honorable Minister of FCT and residents, wishing all Christian faithful a Merry Christmas and Nigerians a Prosperous 2024.
