The Lagos State Government has clarified that it has not reintroduced the monthly environmental sanitation or any movement restrictions starting at the end of July, countering viral misinformation circulating on social media.
In a statement, the State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, described the viral news as the work of mischief-makers aiming to confuse residents. He urged everyone to disregard the false information and continue their lawful activities as usual.
He urged all residents to disregard the content of the viral fake news and go about their lawful business endeavour, adding that there will be no restriction of movements on the last Saturday of July as erroneously included in the fake news.

Clarification
Commissioner Wahab explained that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, during a Flagoff sensitization exercise at Campos playground on Lagos Island, had announced the initiation of a weekly community-based sensitization and awareness exercise.
This initiative will involve government officials joining residents in voluntary cleaning efforts and promoting environmental hygiene.
He said, “The Governor said the State Government officials will lead from the front every week by going round to join residents in cleaning their environment in a voluntary manner while preaching the message”.
Wahab emphasized that at no point did Governor Sanwo-Olu state that the monthly exercise and movement restrictions would commence in July or any other month.
Encouragement for Cleanliness
The Commissioner encouraged residents to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings at all times, rather than waiting for any government-declared sanitation exercise or movement restrictions.
Key Points:
No Monthly Sanitation or Movement Restrictions Yet: The viral news is false; no such measures are being implemented.
Weekly Community-Based Exercise: Governor Sanwo-Olu announced a weekly voluntary cleaning and awareness initiative.
Ongoing Cleanliness Urged: Residents are encouraged to consistently keep their environments clean.
