Amidst the ongoing power challenges across the nation, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Chairman, Musiliu Oseni, has charged the commission on effective communication methods.

Mr. Oseni underscored this during the Q1 2026 Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) Stakeholders’ Meeting held in Lagos on Thursday, 26 March 2026. As the chairman of the meeting, he highlighted the need for a strategic shift toward proactive public engagement.

The quarterly NESI meeting provides a platform for stakeholders to review sector performance, evaluate ongoing reforms, and set new targets for improving electricity service delivery nationwide.

Key highlights from the meeting include:
-Progress on critical power infrastructure, including the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Energy Management System (EMS) projects.

-The SCADA/EMS initiatives, once completed, are expected to reduce system disturbances and strengthen grid stability.

-A renewed call for clear, consistent communication of sector projects and reforms to the public.

-Emphasis on public awareness to help Nigerians understand the long-term benefits of ongoing reforms.

-Operators were urged to project hope and confidence, as effective communication is essential for sector progress.

The meeting had in attendance the leadership of NERC, State Electricity Regulators (SERs), and operators across the electricity value chain.
