No More Silence: Activists Celebrate Landmark Conviction of Dr. Femi Olaleye | Cliptv

In a historic moment of justice served, Dr. Femi Olaleye, the founder of the Optimal Cancer Foundation, has been convicted to life imprisonment for the heinous crime of raping his wife’s niece. The conviction came on Tuesday, delivered by Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja.

Human rights activists in Lagos are celebrating this verdict as a significant win for justice, advocating for the need to bring such cases to light and ensure that perpetrators face the consequences of their actions.

In cases like these, activists reveal a troubling trend where legal practitioners may attempt to persuade victims’ families to accept financial settlements and let the case be swept under the rug, citing the absence of witnesses as a reason to abandon the pursuit of justice. This practice, driven in part by the prevailing poverty in the country, often leaves victims and their families torn between seeking justice and financial relief, despite the irreversible psychological trauma inflicted.

Jennifer Nwosu, a representative of AVCPN (A Voice for the Child Protection Network), emphasizes the critical role of government representatives in these cases. She contends that they should act responsibly and prioritizing the welfare of the victim. “They are in office to defend the poor,” she asserts.

In this particular case, the mother of the victim is being commended for her resolute stand against corruption of justice. She refused a sum of 400,000 Naira, which was offered as part payment to bury the case. Her unwavering commitment to justice despite economic hardship serves as an inspiration to many.

Taiwo-Ndidi Ojo, addressing the audience, expresses her concerns about the legal system. She questions why Femi Olaleye, who was not a member of the medical association, was allowed to practice. She acknowledges that this victory is not just for the survivor but for all those who have fallen victim to Femi Olaleye’s abuses.

This landmark conviction sends a powerful message that justice can prevail, even against influential individuals. The activists are committed to supporting victims and their families, encouraging them to stand up for justice and not be silenced by societal stigmatization.

In a final, resounding message, the activists declare, “Your Day of Reckoning is Coming for the evil ones.” This verdict underscores the importance of addressing the root causes of such issues and ensuring that no one, regardless of their status or connections, can evade justice for their crimes.
