NURTW Holds 10th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference in Abuja | Cliptv Online

Preparations are in their final stages for the 10th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), set to take place in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Abuja.

The NURTW, an influential organization encompassing the transportation sector of the Nigerian economy and affiliated with the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), is set to convene this significant event. Delegates representing the six geopolitical zones will gather to formally endorse the election of Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede as the new National President of the NURTW. Agbede’s presidency follows the conclusion of Alhaji Tajudeen Baruwa’s tenure on August 28, 2023.

Notably, 14 national officers have been elected to various positions. These officers include five Vice Presidents, five National Trustee Members, a Treasurer, Deputy Treasurer, Financial Secretary, and the National Auditor. These elections were held during the zonal delegates’ conference on October 5, 2023.

The five geopolitical zones represented in these elections comprise South East (Zone 1), South South (Zone 3), North Central (Zone 4), North East (Zone 5), and North West (Zone 6).

It is important to mention that the zonal delegates’ conference for Zone 2 (South West), encompassing states like Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, and Ekiti, could not be held. This decision was made due to the fact that as of October 5, 2023, only two states, Lagos and Ekiti, had officially joined the NURTW. It was collectively agreed that for the zone to be adequately represented, a minimum of four states, which is a simple majority, must be involved in the process.
