NSCDC FCT Commandant Vows to Eradicate Vandals and Criminals in Abuja | Cliptv Online

The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Olusola Odumosu, has reiterated his dedication to eliminating vandals and other criminals within the nation’s capital. This initiative is aimed at maintaining peace, combating rising crime rates, and safeguarding critical assets and infrastructure under the new FCT administration.

Commandant Odumosu made this commitment while presenting suspects at the FCT Command Headquarters located in Wuse, Zone 5, Abuja. He revealed that 11 individuals were arrested for illegal mining, vandalism, and scavenging activities in various parts of the territory.

In his statement, Odumosu emphasized, “The protection of all Critical National Assets and Infrastructures in the FCT is non-negotiable. As the lead agency responsible for this duty under the law, we will relentlessly execute our responsibilities without compromise.”

He went on to explain the nature of the arrests, stating, “Out of these arrests, 5 individuals are suspected of engaging in illegal mining, 4 are suspected of vandalizing public assets and infrastructures, and 2 are suspected scavengers. Upon spotting our team, many of them attempted to flee. However, these efforts will be consistently reinforced to eliminate their presence in these locations.”

The suspects involved in illegal mining were apprehended by the Mines and Steel Development unit of the Command based on a tip-off. Their activities were contributing to illegal excavation, which led to the vandalism and destruction of critical infrastructure such as transmission cables, transformers, and the degradation of an area in Katampe Extension, where they were apprehended. During a search operation in their living quarters, law enforcement officials found 5 cartons of tiles and an item suspected to be an explosive bottle, which will be subjected to further investigation.

The individuals arrested for illegal mining activities are as follows:

• Abubakar Suleman, 43 years old (male), from Kastina State.
• Sanusi Abubakar, 21 years old (male), from Kano State.
• Abdullahi Musa, 18 years old (male), from Kano State.
• Adamu Hashiru, 31 years old (male), from Bauchi State.
• Ibrahim Abdullahi, 30 years old, from Bauchi State.

Other suspects arrested for vandalism of government infrastructures and scavenging include:

• Ayu Isimailu, 25 years old (male), from Gombe State.
• Michael Joseph, 30 years old (male), from Kaduna State.
• Solomon Leo, 40 years old (male), from Kaduna State.
• Aliyu Shamsudeen, 18 years old (male), from Plateau State.
• Kashim Mustapha, 45 years old (male), from Oyo State.
• Onyeishi Monday, 43 years old (male), from Delta State.

Commandant Odumosu assured the public that thorough investigations are underway to determine the extent of their involvement in the charges brought against them. Those found guilty will be prosecuted, while those found innocent will be released in accordance with the law.

He also emphasized the importance of continued collaboration with other security agencies and appealed for consistent information and actionable intelligence from the public to rid the FCT of unscrupulous individuals sabotaging the government’s efforts.
