Reformation: How NCoS Transforms Lives Under ACG Fatinikun

Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) Assistant Controller General, ACG Ope Fatinikun of the Lagos/Ogun States Zone has boasted of capacity in rehabilitating over 13,000 inmates in Zone A.

ACG Fatinikun reported that services under his jurisdiction focus on reforming inmates through rehabilitation programs to build their abilities for community reintegration.

Fatinukun puts its highest effort for inmate recovery to make them able to contribute positively in society after prison experience. “Our primary is to develop genuine personal transformation through acquired specialized skill sets,” he said.

He further highlights available skills inmates can benefit from. Stating skills like iron fabrications, mechanized farming and others. Fatinikun states: “We have factories for manufacturing tissue paper, pure water and many other facilities to equip the inmates in our zone.”

Ope Fatinikun urged all inmates to maximize their correctional facility stay by participating in educational and vocational activities the service provides. The service developed specialized programs that teach important life skills with emotional coping capabilities combined with renewed vocational values for inmates to learn.

He further charged current inmates to perceive the time as personal transformation. Inmates receive our guidance and support, yet they need to actively accept resources the facility provides according to his advice.

Furthermore, Fatinikun confirmed that NCoS remains committed to its rehabilitation and reformation mission. Noting, “as well as reintegration and public security responsibilities while acknowledging ongoing innovations for re-entry success.”

This pronouncement by the ACG serves as proof of NCoS’ successful transition from punishment-based strategies to rehabilitation-led strategies which generates new pathways to brighter futures for thousands of inmates.
