
The Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has been praised by the University of Lagos for his commitment to provide additional funding for the clinical trials of the ventilators and research in the University through the Lagos State Science Research and innovation council(LASRIC).
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos(UNILAG),Prof. Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe made this known on Tuesday during the 52nd(2020)Pre – convocation press conference held at the school campus,that Lagos state government has been working tireless to ensure quality education with good research in Lagos schools that it made research become a major currency for all Unilag Academic staff as this was ably demonstrated with Unilag submission to different international organizations and to the Testfund national research fund.
He expressed therefore that the University was the highest recipient of TETfund NRF 2019,as 14 members of staff received a grant sum of N419,600,000.00. While stating further that in 2020, 16 Unilag staff received 419,400,000 as total grant sum from the 2020 TETfund NRF.
Ogundipe noted however that Unilag believed that the steady growth in research activities is precipitated by the approaches adopted to encourage its her staff to showcase their talents.
He said it was with no surprise that the University of Lagos was adjudged as the best tertiary institution in the Southwest on TETfund research grant utilization.
“A number of this research grants have been attracted to this university with the research activities are geared towards changing society and providing solutions to solving the problems we are faced with as a nation”. He said.
He also said that one of such instances is the development of the portable and easily deployable ventilator during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 which was announced at the last convocation ceremony.
Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe informed that the year convocation activities scheduled for Monday 17th January 2022 shall begin with the opening of exhibition at the Unilag Senate House car park opposite the J. F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium at 10am and the Speaker to the house rep. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila to deliver convocation Lecture by 12noon.
Tuesday 18th January would feature graduating students of all department in the faculty of Education and social sciences at 9am and 1pm.
On Wednesday 19th January activity to feature faculty of management sciences,engineering and law graduating students at 9am.
By Thursday 20th January, the School of post graduate studies to be awarded with post graduate diplomas,Master Degree,PH. D degrees and best PH. D at 10am and featuring of Luncheon with Doyan later in the afternoon at the senate lounge,1st floor.
While Friday 21st January would be wrapped up with a long service Award ceremony at the Jelili Adebisi Omotola multipurpose hall by 10:00 am.
