Breaking: Sanwo-Olu, Abiru Commends Umahi on Ikorodu Itokin Road Progress | ClipTV Online

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, and Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, expressed gratitude during a thank-you visit to Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, for the rapid progress on the rehabilitation of the 34-Km Ikorodu Itokin Road.

The road, originally constructed in 1975 by Messr. Taylor Woodrow under the administration of General Yakubu Gowon and General Mobolaji Johnson, the road has undergone significant deterioration over the years, prompting urgent intervention.

Senator Abiru’s motion on the floor of the Nigerian Senate in April 2021 highlighted the critical need for rehabilitating both the Ikorodu-Sagamu and Ikorodu-Itoikin-Epe Roads to bridge infrastructure gaps and spur economic growth in Nigeria. These roads serve as vital access points from other regions of the country, including Ogun, Edo, and the Northern parts, and also connect to key economic hubs like the New Lekki-Ibeju corridor, housing major infrastructure projects such as refineries, the Lagos Deep Seaport, and Free Trade Zone.

During the visit, Governor Sanwo-Olu and Senator Abiru advocated for the dualization of the road, currently a single-carriage route. Minister Umahi assured that the design for the dualization would commence soon, alongside the ongoing reconstruction efforts.

The ongoing rehabilitation and stabilization works have already shown promising results, significantly improving travel experiences along the corridor. Motorists and residents report that it now takes less than 30 minutes to travel from Itamaga to Itokin bridge, a journey that previously consumed up to 2 hours before the rehabilitation efforts.

The commendations extended to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his steadfast support and commitment to completing the rehabilitation of the road, alongside other critical infrastructure projects nationwide.
