Christmas: LASG Hosts 2025 Carol of Nine Lessons | ClipTV Online

The Lagos State Government (LASG) hosted the 2025 Christmas Carol of Nine Lessons at Lagos House, Ikeja, as part of activities marking the celebration of the birth and reign of Jesus Christ.

‎The event, which was the 19th edition of the annual carol service, was themed “The Reign of the Messiah” and was attended by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
‎
‎Also present were the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; the Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, and his wife, Oluremi Hamzat; Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa; Head of Service, Mr Bode Agoro; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Tayo Ayinde; members of the State Executive Council; serving and former public office holders; as well as political, religious and traditional leaders from across the state.

‎During the service, the First Lady read the Ninth Lesson, while the Deputy Governor, his wife, and the Speaker read the Eighth, Seventh and Fourth Lessons respectively. They all extended Christmas goodwill messages to residents of Lagos State.

‎Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Mr Ibrahim Layode, commended the Lagos State Government for sustaining the tradition of the Christmas Carol as part of its commitment to religious harmony and peaceful coexistence.
‎
‎According to him, the theme of the carol reflects the joy, peace and divine upliftment that the birth of Jesus Christ brings to humanity.
‎
‎> “As is customary in Lagos State, we are gathered not merely for music or ceremony, but for worship, reflection and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords,” Layode said.

‎He noted that the lessons and carols trace the journey of Christ from the promise of redemption to His eternal reign, emphasising that the Messiah reigns with grace, love and peace.
‎
‎> “Often at Christmas, we focus on the Baby in the manger and forget the King on the throne. Tonight reminds us that the child born in Bethlehem is the Prince of Peace who still reigns today and whose kingdom will never end,” he added.

‎In his address, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Mr Adewunmi Ogunsanya, acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for initiating the Carol of Nine Lessons tradition, which has endured over the years.

‎He also commended Governor Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Hamzat and their spouses for their continuous support of the ministry and its programmes, while appreciating religious leaders for their spiritual guidance.
