CP Nwadiogbu Orders Immediate Removal of Illegal Checkpoints Across Benue | ClipTV Online

Commuters in Benue State may finally see relief on major highways as the State Police Command launches an immediate operation to pull down all illegal checkpoints and unauthorized revenue collection points.

The directive, issued on June 26th, 2026 by the Commissioner of Police, CP Cletus C. N. Nwadiogbu, psc(+), mnips, PhD, targets hotspots where drivers and passengers have reported harassment and extortion. Federal routes are the main focus, including Makurdi-Lafia, Makurdi-Gboko, Ugbema-Vandeikya, Gboko-Aliade, and Otukpo-Otukpa roads.

According to the Command, the move is meant to restore free movement, improve safety, and stop “roadside taxation” by groups posing as revenue agents. Only official security checkpoints, with proper authorization, full personnel, and clear identification, will remain.

Area Commanders, DPOs, and Tactical Unit Commanders have been ordered to enforce compliance right away. The CP warned that anyone caught mounting or operating illegal roadblocks will face arrest and prosecution under existing laws.

CP Nwadiogbu said the Nigeria Police, working with other security agencies, is committed to making Benue roads safer for everyone. He also called on citizens to stay alert and share information on suspicious persons, vehicles, or activities.
