Emilagba Unveils One-Year Scorecard, Highlights Roads, Education Empowerment | ClipTV Online

Mayor Jubril Kolawole Emilagba, the Executive Chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government, has highlighted the achievements of his administration during his first year in office.

Emilagba made this known during a media parley where he reviewed the activities and achievements of his administration since assuming office in 2025.

The council chairman acknowledged the contributions of his Vice Chairman, Hon. Adewale Moshood Momoh; the Chief of Staff, Hon. Raheem Babatunde; the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG); the Council Manager; and other members of his administration for their support.

Emilagba’s Vision

Since his inauguration in 2025, Emilagba said his administration had executed several community development projects and empowerment programmes.

“In celebrating the one year, we empower our people, we gave them cash palliatives and working tools for their businesses,” he said.

He explained that his mission for Lagos Mainland Local Government was to achieve within one year what previous administrations had been unable to accomplish in eight years.

Emilagba said his administration was determined to “Capture” projects and initiatives that could have taken previous administrations several years to accomplish.

Infrastructure

“That is the meaning of capture, I mean,” Emilagba explained.

He disclosed that his administration had demolished a dilapidated police post and completed its reconstruction within his first 100 days in office.

The council boss also highlighted the construction and rehabilitation of roads across the local government, particularly around Jebba Street, Odunfa, Tapa, Okobaba and other areas.

According to him, the road projects cover both the eastern and western parts of Ebute-Metta.

When asked about the deteriorating condition of Apapa Road, Emilagba explained that the council is currently in discussions with the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) over the reconstruction of the road.

He noted that both the road leading to the council secretariat and Apapa Road were expected to be reconstructed by LAMATA, adding that undertaking the projects independently by the local government would amount to a misuse of public funds.

Education

Emilagba said the people of Lagos Mainland deserved to benefit from the dividends of democracy. Further adding that his administration had prioritised education and the welfare of students.

He disclosed that the council had distributed waste bins cross the 27 public primary schools within the local government.

He added that the schools were fumigated during the holidays to ensure a safe and healthy environment for pupils upon their return.

The council chairman further disclosed that his administration had supported students seeking to further their education by providing more than 500 General Certificate Examination (GCE) forms. “We have distributed and registered 500 free GCE forms to indigent youths in Mainland Local Government,” he said. He added that 750 free Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms were also distributed. Highlighting that these education intervention has had two edition since his administration. He also tipped the journalists that the administration supported youths to study at the Osun State College of Nursing and Sciences, Osogbo.

Another education intervention embarked upon is the “Welcome Back to School” Initiative. During the project, the administration distributed School bags, and other stationaries including 100,000 exercise books across the 27 primary schools.

Emilagba further states that within his first two months in office, his administration organised Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training for public school teachers in Lagos Mainland.

He added that the administration had also supported the health sector, youths, entrepreneurs and persons living with disabilities (PWDs).

“During the holiday, we fumigated all our public schools for the safety of our children. We fumigate all our markets quarterly and all the bus stops, as well as all the public garages in Lagos Mainland Local Government,” he added.

Religious and Cultural Inclusion

Emilagba said his administration had also demonstrated commitment to religious and cultural inclusiveness by supporting residents across different faiths.

He said the council supported Muslims during the month of Ramadan and the celebration of Maolud Nabiyy, while Christians also received support during the Lenten season.

He added that the administration celebrated Christmas with Christian residents, stressing that the council belonged to everyone irrespective of religious affiliation.

Emilagba further noted that his administration had been working with the paramount ruler of Lagos Mainland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Muh’Bashir Alamu Abisoye Odesanya (Olupejobi II), the Oloto of Oto, to support traditional rulers and traditional institutions.

He said the council had also participated in celebrations with traditionalists, describing the gesture as evidence of his administration’s commitment to inclusiveness.

According to Emilagba, the achievements recorded within the first year reflect his administration’s determination to deliver on its campaign promises and ensure that residents of Lagos Mainland benefit from democratic governance.
