Inter-Agency Collaboration: NSCDC, NCoS Renew Commitment to Custodial Safety, Security | ClipTV Online

In a strategic move to enhance security in custodial centers, ACG Opeyemi Fatinikun mni, Zonal Coordinator of Zone A, Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), has paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The visit highlight the commitment of both agencies in deepening partnership and strengthening custodial security.

In his address, ACG Fatinikun highlighted the critical role the NSCDC play in securing national assets and supporting custodial facilities. He acknowledged the establishment of NSCDC in 2003 was decades after the creation of NCoS. Fatinukun emphasized the need for inter-agency collaboration in protecting correctional facilities across Zone A, which comprises 11 custodial centers.

Seeking NSCDC’s assistance in strengthening security, ACG Fatinikun stressed that correctional facilities require more structured and fortified protection, given the rising security concerns in the country.

NSCDC Pledges Full Support for Custodial Centers

In response, Assistant Commandant General, ACG Akibo Olusola Michael, NSCDC’s Zone 1 (Lagos and Ogun States), welcomed the visit as a reflection of the strong bond between the two agencies. Akibo applaud the NCoS for its relentless efforts in rehabilitating and reintegrating inmates back to the society. He further thanked ACG Opeyemi Fatinikun mni for the timely visit.

ACG Akibo noted that NCoS and NSCDC share a unique relationship within Nigeria’s security framework, with a mutual goal of safeguarding lives and property. He however acknowledge the difference in mandates but reaffirmed that both agencies are aligned in their commitment to national security.

NSCDC to Deploy Armed Personnel to Custodial Centers

Responding to Fatinikun’s request, ACG Akibo pledged to deploy additional armed NSCDC personnel to custodial centers, strengthening their security infrastructure. He assured that investigations would be carried out regarding concerns over the withdrawal of NSCDC officers previously assigned to custodial centers and promised corrective measures.

“We are committed in ensuring the security and safety of your Correctional Service officers, facilities, and inmates,” ACG Akibo reaffirmed.

He further emphasized that the visit would lead to more strategic collaborations. Stating, this may include joint operations, intelligence sharing, or capacity building initiatives to strengthen security within custodial centers.

New Chapter in NCoS-NSCDC

Th meeting between the two agencies signal a renewed commitment to tackling security challenges facing the correctional system. With NSCDC’s reinforced presence in custodial centers, NCoS personnel, facilities, and inmates are expected to benefit from enhanced security measures.
