In a successful operation, combined troops of the Nigerian Army’s 63 Brigade, the Nigeria Police, and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have neutralized two fighters belonging to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN). The operation took place on Monday in Asaba, Delta State, following distress calls of an attack on the community.
Upon receiving the distress calls, the combined troops swiftly responded and engaged the terrorists in a fierce encounter at Fuji Junction. The overwhelming firepower of the troops led to the elimination of two terrorists, while the remaining members fled to their hideout near the Okpanam river.
Undeterred, the gallant troops pursued the fleeing criminals and successfully traced them to their enclave in a house near the Okpanam river, where they were apprehended. The operation also resulted in the recovery of weapons, including one AK 47 Rifle, one Pump Action Semi Automatic Rifle, 15 Live Cartridges, one AK 47 Rifle Magazine, and a Baofeng Radio Receiver.
The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, commended the combined troops for their efforts and urged them to sustain the synergy as they work towards restoring peace and tranquility in the region.
The operation serves as a testament to the commitment and effectiveness of the joint security forces in tackling the security challenges posed by IPOB/ESN fighters. The Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, and DSS continue to call on the public to provide actionable information that supports their operations and assists in maintaining security in the region.
The successful neutralization of the IPOB/ESN fighters and the subsequent arrest of five individuals involved in the attack highlight the determination of the security forces to safeguard communities and protect the lives and property of the citizens.
