In a public announcement released today, the Kano State Police Command provided vital information regarding the upcoming re-run elections for three (03) Kano State House of Assembly Constituencies scheduled for Saturday, 3rd February 2024. The re-run will cover sixty-six (66) polling units across six (6) Local Government Areas, namely Tsanyawa/Kunchi, Kura/Garun Mallam, and Tofa/Rimin Gado.

Focal Points of the Announcement:

1. Security Measures:
The Police Command, in collaboration with relevant security agencies, is committed to ensuring a secure environment for the elections.


The Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Elections Security (ICCES) will play a crucial role in securing the election.


Movement restrictions will be in place in the six LGAs where the re-run elections will occur, with exceptions for essential services.

2. Security Guidelines for Voters and Election Officials:
Only accredited individuals, including the press, will be allowed access to election locations.


Policemen are prohibited from escorting VIPs/political office holders to election venues.
Strict measures against thuggery and the importation of thugs are outlined, with deployed security personnel prepared to enforce the law.

3. Specific Security Measures:
Rigorous stop-and-search and patrols will be conducted in all LGAs with re-run elections.


Quasi Security Outfits like Hisbah, KAROTA, Vigilante, Hunters, Man O War, Boys Scouts, etc., are not permitted to participate in the re-run elections.
