NIMC Issues 105 Million NINs, Targets Full Enrollment | ClipTV Online

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has achieved a significant milestone by issuing over 105 million National Identification Numbers (NINs) to Nigerians and legal residents. The commission aims to enroll the entire population of over 200 million Nigerians by 2026, according to Kayode Adegoke, the Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC.

Speaking during a recent session on X Space, Adegoke highlighted the commission’s commitment to reaching its enrollment target within the next one or two years. He emphasized the importance of streamlining the modification and enrollment processes, a task undertaken since the appointment of Abisoye Coker as the director-general of NIMC.

Under Coker’s leadership, the commission introduced a self-service platform to simplify the modification process for NIN data. Previously, individuals had to visit NIMC offices or centers physically for modifications. With the new platform, Nigerians can now change their names, dates of birth, email addresses, phone numbers, and more from the comfort of their homes or offices using any iOS or Android-based device.

Adegoke highlighted that all modifications through the self-service portal are now completed within 24-48 hours, a significant improvement from the previous waiting period of several months. He also clarified the distinction between the NIMC self-service portal and the NIMC mobile app, noting that while the mobile app focuses on identification and linking mobile numbers to NINs, the self-service portal is exclusively for data modification.

The introduction of these digital platforms underscores NIMC’s commitment to enhancing efficiency and accessibility in the national identification system, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to strengthen Nigeria’s identity infrastructure. With ongoing efforts and technological advancements, NIMC is poised to achieve its goal of enrolling every Nigerian citizen and resident in the coming years.
