NNPC CEO Attributes Petrol Price Increase to Market Forces, Denies Short Supply | Cliptv Online

Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited, has attributed the recent surge in petrol pump prices from N540 to N617 per litre to market forces. Speaking to state house correspondents after a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Aso Villa, Kyari clarified that the increase was not due to a shortage of petrol supply.

In his statement, Kyari emphasized that the upward adjustment in petrol prices was a result of prevailing market conditions and not a reflection of inadequate petrol availability. While acknowledging the concerns raised by the public regarding the significant price hike, he stated that the decision was influenced by various economic factors and global market dynamics.

The NNPC CEO’s comments come amidst growing public dissatisfaction and apprehension over the escalating cost of petrol, which has put additional financial strain on consumers and businesses. Kyari’s clarification aims to provide transparency and alleviate concerns regarding potential fuel scarcity as the price continues to rise.

It is important to note that market forces, such as fluctuations in crude oil prices, exchange rates, and international demand, play a significant role in determining the retail price of petrol. As a result, adjustments in fuel prices are often inevitable to align with prevailing economic conditions.

While the price increase may be attributed to market forces, stakeholders and consumers alike are keenly observing the situation and calling for measures to mitigate the impact on the general populace. Discussions on finding a balance between market dynamics and ensuring affordable petrol prices for Nigerian citizens remain ongoing.

As the NNPC continues to navigate these challenges, the public awaits further updates on measures to address the concerns surrounding petrol prices and ensure stability in the fuel market.
