The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, held a press briefing today at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano to discuss the security arrangements in place ahead of the Kano State Governorship Appeal Court Judgment scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, November 17, 2023.
SECURITY MEASURES:
- Collaborative Security Arrangements: The Kano State Police Command, in collaboration with the Military and other sister security agencies, has finalized comprehensive security arrangements. Adequate personnel from various security agencies have been strategically deployed across the state to ensure peace and order.
- Engagement with Political Parties: The security apparatus has engaged with the leadership of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), the two political parties involved. Both parties have assured cooperation and have signed a peace accord, committing to maintaining peace and calmness.
- Terms of the Peace Accord:
- No politically motivated gatherings will be allowed.
- Supporters are prohibited from engaging in actions that may incite violence.
- Leaders pledge to avoid statements that could escalate political tension.
- Commitment to monitoring and complying with the peace accord.
- Full support for security arrangements to maintain peace.
- Legal Consequences: Any individual or group found disrupting the peace during and after the Appeal Judgment will face the full consequences of the law.
APPEAL TO KANO STATE RESIDENTS:
While assuring the people of Kano State of the security apparatus’s commitment to safeguarding lives and properties, CP Gumel urged residents to refrain from actions that could lead to the breakdown of law and order.
