Suspected Fraudsters Threaten Journalist, Demand N20 Million Ransom | ClipTV Online

Fraud

A group of suspected fraudsters, posing as assassins, have threatened to eliminate the founder of Penpushing Media, Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji, unless he pays a ransom of N20 million. The criminals, who contacted the veteran journalist early in the morning, claimed they were hired by someone close to him but had reconsidered their mission. They then tend to fraud him by requesting for a ransom.

According to Kayode-Adedeji, the gang leader, who identified himself as Femi Poly, called him at 7:30 am, informing him that they had been contracted to take his life. However, after assessing the situation, they allegedly decided to spare him if he could “settle” them with N20 million.

Fraudsters Reduce Ransom Demand

The suspects, using mobile numbers +2349036869898 and +2348080858130, refused to disclose their sponsor’s identity but assured the journalist that he would receive the information after making the payment.

“The person is your close associate who told us he had issues with you,” they claimed. “But can you keep it to yourself if we reveal the identity? We will do that after you pay the N20 million.”

Therefore, when Adedeji explained that he did not have such a large amount, the criminals lowered their demand to N500,000, then further reduced it to N150,000. Eventually, after he insisted he could not raise such funds, they requested an immediate N10,000 part-payment, providing an Access Bank account (0002884692) under the name Aminu Adamu.

Police Investigation Underway

Furthermore, realizing the fraudulent nature of the call, the journalist promptly reported the matter to the police. Police has launched an investigation to track down the perpetrators and uncover any links between them and the alleged sponsor.

Police continue to advise Nigerians to remain vigilant, avoid engaging with such criminals, and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
