Suspended CBN Governor Pleads Not Guilty to Gun Possession Charges | Cliptv Online

Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, has pleaded not guilty to the charges of gun possession filed against him by the Federal Government at the Federal High Court in Lagos. The trial commenced with Emefiele arriving at the court around 9:20 am.

The charges against Emefiele include possessing a single-barrel shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without a license on June 15. The Federal Government, as the prosecuting party, alleges that this act violates Section 4 of the Firearms Act, 2004, and is punishable under Section 27 (1b) of the same Act.

Additionally, Emefiele faces accusations of possessing 123 rounds of live ammunition (cartridges) without a license, which is said to be contrary to Section 8 of the Firearms Act 2004 and punishable under Section 27 (1)(b)(il) of the same Act.

The charges and trial have attracted significant attention and scrutiny, given Emefiele’s position as the head of Nigeria’s central bank. The case will now proceed through the judicial process, with Emefiele maintaining his plea of not guilty.

As the trial unfolds, all eyes are on the court proceedings to determine the outcome of the case and its potential impact on the country’s financial and economic landscape. The charges highlight the importance of adhering to legal requirements and regulations, even for high-ranking officials, and underscore the significance of responsible gun ownership and licensing in Nigeria.
