Former Aides of Ex-Deputy Governor of Ondo State Facing Court Over Alleged Theft and Fraud | Cliptv Online

Two former aides of the immediate past Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, namely Ogunmusi Samuel and Akintoye Olatunji, have appeared before a Chief Magistrate Court in Akure, facing allegations of theft and obtaining money under false pretenses.

The accusations stem from their alleged collection of a car from a vehicle dealer in Akure in 2018 without making payment. However, Ogunmusi claimed he was acting on the instructions of his boss at the time, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, who instructed him to take the first respondent to the car dealership, Segun Adetuwo’s automart, to collect a car.

Unable to recover the money for the car from the defendants since 2018, the dealer, Segun Adetuwo, brought the matter before the Chief Magistrate Court in Akure.

During the court hearing, the counsel to the prosecutor, Emmanuel Tanimowo, revealed that the former deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, had not responded to police invitations to come forward and provide his account of the incident.

The charges against Olatunji and Ogunmusi include conspiracy to commit a felony, obtaining by false pretense, and stealing. They are accused of obtaining a brand new black Toyota Camry XLE valued at N5,400,000 and converting it fraudulently to their own use.

The attorney for the first respondent, Barrister Omolegbon Odunsola, expressed his efforts to reach an out-of-court settlement with both parties. On the other hand, the attorney for the applicant, Barrister Alex Olademehin, insisted that the former deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, must provide his statement directly or appear in court.

The presiding judge, Chief Magistrate Taiwo Lebi, has ruled that Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi or his statement must be produced in court during the next hearing, which has been adjourned to November 24, 2023.

This case highlights the complexities surrounding the alleged theft and fraudulent activities, involving individuals who once held prominent positions within the state government.
