NCoS Acting CG Lauds 16th Advanced Command Course Graduates, Calls for Reforms | ClipTV Online

The Acting Controller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, MFR, mni, has commended the successful participants of the 16th Advanced Command Course for Controllers of Corrections, held at the Correctional Academy, Ijebu-Igbo.

Represented by the Assistant Controller General, Zone A, ACG Opeyemi Fatinikun, mni, the Acting Controller General addressed the graduands at the end-of-course ceremony on Friday, February 21, 2025.

In her message, Nwakuche applaud President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, and the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for their unwavering support towards NCoS. The support especially in facilitating capacity-building programs like the just concluded training.

Congratulating the participants, Nwakuche emphasized the significance of the training, stating:

“Your dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment has led to your successful completion of this program in professional excellence,” she further state.

Importance of NCoS Course

She highlighted the course’s relevance in preparing controllers to play a more dynamic role in inmate reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society.

Nwakuche urged the newly trained controllers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and humane treatment of inmates.

“Correctional centers are not just places of confinement; they are centers for rehabilitation and reformation for the seamless reintegration of offenders,” she stressed.

NCoS Challenges

While celebrating the graduands’ achievements, she however acknowledged the pressing challenges facing the correctional service. She stated these as the core challenges confronting NCoS: Overcrowding in facilities, inadequate infrastructure, and limited resources.

She called for continued government intervention to address these issues and improve the overall efficiency of correctional facilities in Nigeria.

Leadership Commendation

In conclusion, Nwakuche applauded the leadership of the Nigeria Correctional Service Academy, Ijebu-Igbo, particularly the Commandant, ACG Victoria Modupe Fatodu, for the successful organization of the course.

Furthermore, she appreciate the academy staff, instructors, and other senior officers who contributed to the success of the training.

Commandant Fatodu’s Remarks

In her address, ACG Victoria Modupe Fatodu, the Academy Commandant congratulated the participants and commended their patience and determination completing the program. “The course which started on January 13, 2025, and concluded on February 21, 2025 has been a complete success,” she said.

She emphasized that the course would prepare the controllers for higher responsibilities in correctional management, urging them to apply their newly acquired knowledge effectively.

“Make positive impacts in your various positions, upholding the principles of justice and fairness while discharging your duties,” she stated.

ACG Fatodu further hailed the new graduates for their maturity, sacrifices, and commitment to completing the training. Reinforced the importance of continuous professional development in the Nigeria Correctional Service.

The graduation marked another milestone in the NCoS’s commitment to strengthening leadership and improving correctional administration in Nigeria.
