The attention of Headquarters 81 Division Nigerian Army (NA) has been drawn to social media insinuations alleging that a soldier of 35 Artillery Brigade terminated his life due to non-payment of Ration Cash Allowance (RCA).
The Division expresses deep concern that such a tragic incident is being misused to tarnish its image. For clarity, the late soldier was deployed for daily cantonment duty on January 15, 2024, and was adequately fed in line with NA’s standards.
Investigations reveal that the soldier handled his personal weapon negligently, resulting in an accidental discharge and his subsequent death. Further investigations are ongoing to understand the circumstances and possible causes.
The remains of the soldier have been evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta, and the Division has informed the deceased’s family, offering heartfelt condolences.
It is crucial to emphasize the Division’s commitment to the welfare of its troops, and it will not neglect its responsibilities in this regard.
