The Police Service Commission (PSC) is pleased to announce that within six days of commencing the ongoing police recruitment exercise on January 8, 2024, a total of 136,177 candidates have undergone screening across the country. The PSC, through the Police Recruitment Board, is currently evaluating 416,270 Nigerian youths who aspire to join the Nigeria Police Force.
The screening process involves both physical and credentials assessments as a prelude to an aptitude test and subsequent stages, including medical examinations. To enhance the credibility and standardization of the selection process, the Commission has upgraded and automated various procedures. The results of the screening are uploaded in real time to the Commission’s portal, with continuous monitoring by the Situation Room led by Commission Chairman Dr. Solomon Arase CFR, a retired Inspector General of Police.
Out of the candidates screened, 108,768 have been successfully uploaded, with the variance attributed to challenges related to fluctuating network issues. Dr. Arase, the National Coordinator for the recruitment exercise, expressed satisfaction with the dedication of Commission staff, police officials, and other members of the Police Recruitment Board.
He acknowledged a commendable improvement in both screening and uploading rates and encouraged the workforce to sustain the momentum, aiming for even greater achievements. Dr. Arase reassured candidates not to panic, emphasizing that all applicants would undergo screening before the conclusion of the exercise.
Dr. Arase affirmed the Commission’s commitment to establishing a credible platform for public service recruitment, meeting international standards and avoiding any form of manipulation. He hinted at a potential review of the exercise sequence, prioritizing aptitude tests as the first stage to eliminate unqualified candidates before subsequent screening.
Notably, Dr. Arase raised concerns about candidates with impressive academic certificates struggling with basic tasks such as writing their names or introducing themselves. He emphasized that introducing aptitude tests as the initial phase would help filter out obviously unqualified candidates.
The Commission is dedicated to achieving a streamlined and efficient recruitment process in Nigeria. Dr. Arase concluded by highlighting the importance of getting the entry point right to ensure a high standard of performance from the recruited officers.
