Despite many smooth and peaceful processes recorded in different LGA and LCDA all around Lagos yesterday, there were reports of vicious activity witnessed in Ijede LCDA.
APC as the strongest political party in the country just demonstrated a weak electoral process in Ijede LCDA primaries.
Lanre Ogunyemi, secretary to the Lagos state chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) on Wednesday, 12 of May, 2021 divulge that there were 332 Chairmanship candidates to be screened.
“The process adopt all who meet the party guidelines part” the party Caretaker Committee Chairman and the Secretary Alhaji Tunde Balogun and Mr. Lanre Ogunyemi disclosed this in a jointly signed guidelines for the screening process.
They said that all aspirants must sign the party’s code of conduct and only aspirant cleared by the screening committee shall be eligible to stand election at the party’s primaries.
The screening process that ended on May 21 indicated there were three Chairmanship candidates from Ijede LCDA Chairmanship cleared by the process. Hon. Fatiu Jimoh Salisu, Male with form No. 0041, Hon. Onamade Oluwatosin Adeleke, Male with form No. 0026 and Hon. Akeem Akinjobi, Male with form No 0188.
Nevertheless, on the dawn of the primaries, it was gathered that the incumbent Chairman, Alhaji Fatiu Jimoh Salisu, retracted from the LCDA Polls race.
It was deduced that Alh. Fatiu action to recoil is to bolster the incumbent vice Chairman, Mrs. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba.
However, Motunrayo never obtain the Chairmanship form from the party, neither was she screened as there was no female among the screened candidates list released by the party. It was astounding to the people of the LCDA seeing such discrepancy.
Speaking to an electorate “this treachery act is taking advantage of the people of Ijede LCDA. Knowing that many of the voters are not literate. This is unacceptable” he said.
Another party member in ward A told the media “this injustice and bad governance and we won’t accept it in ward A The chairmanship aspirant Hon Oluwatosin Onamade and Hon Akeem members were not allowed to vote even their agents were not allowed in side the hall where the voting was to took place automatically there was no vote there, so where did officials in that area got their result in ward A. We want to know and we need a clear answer because this too much.”
Another party member by the name Adebayo said “They want to see the vengeance of the youths again. Three candidates bought the form and screened by APC. How come Motunrayo Gbadamosi is on the result sheets?This is dishonesty of the highest order, political manoeuvre and political permutations. All this barbaric Act must Stop. We can not be enslaved by the mother and her daughter. APC leadership Lagos State Should be careful and wary. The situation of the country is tensed already. Do not stir up the youths.
Is the Lagos State Chapter of the party saying the national leader is incapable of the leadership of the party? he concluded.
Efforts to speak with the incumbent Chairman prove abortive. Nonetheless, the party chairman was contacted who promised to get back to the media on Monday as he can not disclose any information at the moment.
It was also gathered that in Ward D in the LCDA, hoodlums restricted voters from exercising their franchise.
