In a recent clarification, the chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) branch of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Mohammed Maku-Sidi, has dispelled earlier reports that he was the one gunned down during a terrifying kidnap attempt. Maku-Sidi provided a detailed account of the incident, which unfolded at his private residence in Sabon-Wuse, Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State.

The NUT chairman disclosed that a group of kidnappers, comprising five individuals armed with sophisticated weapons, forcefully entered his house through one of the entrance doors. He recounted the harrowing ordeal during an interview with a local reporter on Thursday.

According to Maku-Sidi, one of the kidnappers instructed one of his aides to lead them to the chairman’s bedroom. Upon hearing the commotion and sensing imminent danger, Maku-Sidi promptly took cover in a corner of his bedroom.

The kidnappers, unaware of his presence, began firing their weapons towards the windows. In a desperate bid to seek help, Maku-Sidi discreetly contacted local security operatives who were on patrol that night.

He expressed his deep appreciation for the rapid response of the joint security team to his distress call. Fortunately, none of his family members were harmed or abducted during the attempted kidnapping.

This clarification dispels earlier erroneous reports regarding the chairman’s well-being and the heroic efforts of the security forces that prevented a potentially tragic outcome.
