Over Speeding Truck Faces Brake Failure While Climbing High Bridge, Lastma Personnel Swiftly Respond to Rescue Injured Individuals

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) demonstrated swift response as they rescued a seriously injured driver and a motor boy from an empty articulated 40ft flatbed truck that fell off a high bridge on the Apapa route.

In an official statement released by Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, the incident occurred during the ascent of the high bridge opposite ‘Sifax’ Company by Ijora ‘Olopa’ toward Apapa.

The injured driver was found in a critical condition with blood gushing from his head, while the motor boy suffered a serious waist fracture along the spinal cord.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver lost control of the empty flatbed truck due to brake failure while contesting the ‘Right of Way’ with another fully loaded truck attempting to climb the High Bridge toward Apapa.

Upon the occurrence, fellow articulated truck drivers in the vicinity, especially around ‘Sifax’ Company, collaborated with Lastma personnel to rescue both the trapped driver and motor boy.

Lastma’s Goriola Jimoh ‘Zebra’ (Zone 22) Apapa, who led the rescue operation, confirmed that the injured driver and motor boy were promptly conveyed to the General Hospital in Apapa for immediate medical attention.

The crashed articulated truck was later evacuated by officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Unit, and the case was handed over to the police at Ijora – Badia Police Station for further investigation.

Mr. Bakare Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, appealed to articulated truck owners to conduct regular safety training and awareness campaigns for their drivers, emphasizing the importance of adhering to road signs and speed limits on highways within and outside the state.
